Becoming & Belonging (B&B) Series — Inner Leadership

Becoming & Belonging Series

At this phase of my life, I recognize the need to get to the core of things. Beneath facilitation that so often points to learning and accomplishment, lives in most of us a hunger for more fulfilling life and story. Lives hunger for becoming and belonging. Becoming who we are really meant to be. Belonging to life and to community. Most of my work these days grows from this core. Most of my heart lives in invitation to explore and practice together. Most of my hope lays in helping people everywhere get to the more fulfilling and contributing path.

This B&B Series is a work in progress. Creating wildly. Giving shape to what I love. To what contributes well. Inviting others to jump in. Crossing my fingers. Staying on point with what the point is. B&B is free now. To experience personal practice and personal practice in community. Somewhere in the future I’ll shift to a “pay what you can” model or a subscription / membership model.

Each offering is independent. You can show up as a first-timer or as a repeat participant. Mix & match as you will. Dive deep with me. I’m starting with a few offerings. I love doing them. They are deep personal practice for me. I know them to be good for and with others. Some are for small groups. Some for larger groups.

Flow Group

Flow Group is a small group (typically 5-6 participants), 90-minute online hosted experience of The Flow Game. Each participant comes with an overarching intent or question to explore. The group reflects together on question prompts from the game. We harvest insight and intuition, clarity, and connection. No fee. Complimentary until it’s not.

Wander School

I’ve been dreaming Wander School for a decade now. It’s been dreaming me. It’s not complicated — skillful wander into the lusciously interconnected self and community. Clarity awaits through the unplanned. And surprise. And fulfillment. And play. And practice to guide a way of being. The musician Dougie MacLean says it nicely in a song, “All who wander are not lost; we just like the wind in our face.”

Pick A Card

You know how there are all those decks of cards out there. I have a few favorites (Inner Compass; Spirited Leadership; Carla Kimball Revealed Presence). Perhaps you do too. B&B connects to cards for how they bring some randomness to archetypes (patterns in all of us). So fruitful to welcome the external symbol (the card, the conversation) to tease out the inner meaning (even some hidden parts).

Share One

Share One is a 60-minute online format (Zoom) to highlight Becoming & Belonging resources, practices, and community. It’s for guest teachers and conveners. It’s for guest experimenters. I’ll support you in advance. The guest’s job (solo or with a partner) is to bring something you care about (a resource, a process, both) that encourages becoming and belonging. Pre-arranged with me. Bring something you would do even if nobody showed up. I’ll help with book-end format — context, check-in and check-out.

In The Works

  • Let’s Write — Writing is a personal contemplative practice for me. That’s private journal five ish times per week. That’s blog most Mondays thru Thursdays (Human to Human). That’s poetry. Writing is also a communal practice. It’s sweet to discover together. In company we find the personal. In the personal we find the company (universal). Writing changes the game for B&B.
  • Let’s Have a Story — In the tradition of the mythopoetic, story gives us unique material so as to find what is very old within us. I love the medium of story, all listening together to a tale, and then hearing a round of details in Circle format. It’s one of the deepest weaves, and one of the bravest weaves I know.
  • Journeymen — Men have medicine for men. I’ve known this through 15 years of men’s gathering (online and in person). I knew it before that but didn’t know that I knew it. Some of the sweetest learning I know is men taking journey together, to get skilled and surrendered into a more healthy masculine. Journeymen will grow somewhere in the future. For now I contribute this energy in two Men’s Groups. Reach me if you want to explore participating.
  • Circle Up — Circle has been the thing that has most changed my professional and personal life. In the Art of Hosting world, I often said to those enthused, “if you want to get good at all of this, get good at Circle.” I wrote Gifts of Circle, and Question Cards (2024) to support this. I want to live and applaud cultures of listening and connection. Cultures in which there is light but deliberate format to support kindness, consciousness and flow as ways of expected being. Grow a heart of Circle and it will grow you.
  • Pot Pourri — Got to have a category for “and, and….” Of course there is other stuff that I, or you, or we, will be inspired to try. That point to the B&B hearth of it. That point to the infrastructure of the heart and belly that prioritizes personal and communal becoming and belonging.

Your Step

If any of this interests you, moves you, reach me here. We’ll get in touch and follow the heart of it. We can see where there is fit. Or make something up. We can grown and build from there. For you. Or for the people you lead. Or for the teams you are on that yearn for something meaningful and liberating underneath all of it.

Gifts of Circle - Question Cardsasd
Gifts of Circle is 30 short essays divided into 4 sections: 1) Circle's Bigger Purpose, 2) Circle's Practice, 3) Circle's First Requirements, and 4) Circle's Possibility for Men. From the Introduction: "Circle is what I turn to in the most comprehensive stories I know -- the stories of human beings trying to be kind and aware together, trying to make a difference in varied causes for which we need to go well together. Circle is also what I turn to in the most immediate needs that live right in front of me and in front of most of us -- sharing dreams and difficulties, exploring conflicts and coherences. Circle is what I turn to. Circle is what turns us to each other."

Question Cards is an accompanying tool to Gifts of Circle. Each card (34) offers a quote from the corresponding chapter in the book, followed by sample questions to grow your Circle hosting skills and to create connection, courage, and compassionate action among groups you host in Circle.

In My Nature
is a collection of 10 poems. From A Note of Beginning: "This collection of poems arises from the many conversations I've been having about nature. Nature as guide. Nature as wild. Nature as organized. I remain a human being that so appreciates a curious nature in people. That so appreciates questions that pick fruit from inner being, that gather insights and intuitions to a basket, and then brings the to table to be enjoyed and shared over the next week."

This set of Note Cards (8 cards + envelopes)  quotes a few favorite passages from poems in In My Nature. I offer them as inspiration. And leave room for you to write personal notes.

Most Mornings is a collection of 37 poems. I loved writing them. From the introduction: "This collection of poems comes from some of my sense-making that so often happens in the morning, nurtured by overnight sleep. The poems sample practices. They sample learnings. They sample insights and discoveries. They sample dilemmas and concerns."
