Bounty

It was the day before I left for travel that I picked these garden tomatoes. I thought there were 2-3. But sure enough, hidden under a few vines and leaves, was this ample bowlful of harvest.

That kind of bounty is particularly satisfying to me. The surprise. The fruit that has soaked up sun and water over the last months. The tomato plant itself with its unique smell.

So, here’s to some coming sliced tomatoes with dressing. And toasted tomato sandwiches with a pinch of salt and pepper. And some sharing with neighbors.

And to a bounty that is not only on the external by the bowlful, but on the internal also, by the heart full.
